Between March 11 and March 23, 2025, the second field campaign within the WaMiSAR project took place at two contrasting mining areas in Namibia. Intensive sampling was conducted by Dr. Karl Richter and Phillip Rinkel from Aquantec, together with Prof. Dr. Stefan Norra, Rosa Sengl, and Sanja Russ from the University of Potsdam (UP). The support provided by Paulina Nangombe and Kamundu Kamuiiua from local mining industry partners was greatly appreciated.

During the campaign, soil sensors were installed at several locations, where additional soil and groundwater samples were collected (see figure) to analyze nutrient and trace element content, permeability, soil type, and mineralogy. The resulting data will contribute to a better understanding of the hydrological and geochemical processes in the study area.

In addition, detailed mapping of spontaneous vegetation was carried out to document the natural adaptation strategies of the local flora to environmental conditions. These data will provide a valuable foundation for gaining key insights into vegetation dynamics in mining areas—crucial for developing future revegetation strategies.
